COVID Monument 2

Inscription: "Al Ravert is essential personnel at the Lynch Grain Elevator during the COVID-19 epidemic. Because he works with farmers and truck drivers all day, he must quarantine himself from his family each night to protect them from possible exposure... He may not embrace his grandchildren until further notice."

The stoic, Doric form draws from the Western tradition of commemorating historic events with solemn monuments, even when complicated and painful. The single buttress represents one man’s effort to support an entire farming organization, yet it pushes into a dark void of obscurity.

We are just stewards of history. In 2018 we purchased this historic Quaker Farm House in Kent County, on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. We are fortunate indeed.

The farm house was built in two stages, the original, a two bay, two and half level, Flemish bond brick house (the two windows on the right) is from 1782. The balance was added in 1792 and included a proper stair hall (replacing ladder stairs in what is now the dining room) and a gathering hall, as well as additional bedrooms on the second floor and attic. The original house had about 100 acres.

Hardly a “farm dog” Franklin does enjoy a bit of regional fame!

Recently selected as Mr. April for the Humane Society of Kent County’s Hotties and Hounds 2019 Calendar, Franklin is definitely enjoying his minor celebrity!
